Clinical Trial and Multi-omics Analysis Demonstrates the Impact of Therapeutic Plasma Exchange on Biological Age
Summary Can plasma exchange make a person biologically younger? Show / hide ↓
Researchers tested therapeutic plasma exchange, a medical procedure that removes some blood plasma and replaces it with another fluid, in people. They measured many blood signals at once, called multi-omics, before and after treatment. They used these results to estimate biological age, which is a measure of how old the body appears based on its cells and molecules. The study reported changes suggesting lower biological age, but it did not show that people lived longer or stayed healthier.
What this means for you: This is not enough evidence to buy or seek plasma exchange for aging. It was a limited, short-term study, and biological-age estimates can change without proving longer life or better health.
