Pterostilbene Promotes Mean Lifespan in Both Male and Female Drosophila Melanogaster Modulating Different Proteins in the Two Sexes
PRECLINICAL
2022
Summary Can pterostilbene help fruit flies live longer? Show / hide ↓
Researchers gave pterostilbene, a plant compound, to male and female fruit flies. They compared the flies’ average lifespan with untreated flies. The treated flies lived longer on average in both sexes. The compound affected different proteins, the working molecules inside cells, in males and females. No people took part in this study.
What this means for you: This is not enough evidence to buy pterostilbene or use it for longer life. Results in fruit flies do not directly show that it helps humans, and the effective dose and safety for people remain unclear.
