Summary Can a blood test show how quickly my body is aging? Show / hide ↓
Researchers created DunedinPACE, a blood test based on chemical tags on DNA. These tags are sometimes called DNA methylation, and they can change as the body ages. They used health measurements from more than 1,000 people in New Zealand who were followed from childhood into midlife, then tested the score in other groups. Higher scores generally matched faster declines in health and a higher risk of some age-related problems. No treatment was tested.
What this means for you: This may become a useful research tool, but it is not a proven personal health test. Do not buy supplements or treatments based only on a DunedinPACE result.
