DNA methylation GrimAge strongly predicts lifespan and healthspan
Summary Can a blood test predict my lifespan and healthy years? Show / hide ↓
Researchers created GrimAge, a blood-based estimate of biological aging, meaning how old the body appears rather than how many birthdays someone has had. They studied blood samples from thousands of adults in long-term health studies. The test looked at DNA methylation, small chemical tags that can change how genes work, along with signs related to smoking and blood proteins. People with older GrimAge scores were more likely to die sooner, develop heart disease or cancer, and have worse physical function.
What this means for you: This test may help researchers estimate health risks, but it cannot tell you exactly how long you will live. It does not prove that lowering the score through a supplement, product, or treatment will extend life, so this study alone is not a reason to buy a methylation test.
