DNA methylation GrimAge version 2
Summary Does GrimAge version 2 predict health and lifespan better than the original? Show / hide ↓
Researchers created and tested a newer blood-based aging score called GrimAge version 2. It uses DNA methylation, chemical tags that help control how genes work, along with signals related to smoking and certain blood proteins. They tested it in several groups of middle-aged and older adults and tracked deaths and major diseases. The newer score predicted these outcomes somewhat better than the original GrimAge score. This was an observational study, so it found links but did not show that changing the score would make anyone live longer.
What this means for you: This may be a better research tool for estimating health risks, but it is not a proven test for deciding which supplement, treatment, or lifestyle product to buy. A higher score does not prove that a specific intervention will lower your risk.
