Summary Can DNA changes estimate the age of mammals across different tissues? Show / hide ↓

Researchers studied 11,754 tissue samples from 185 mammal species, including humans. They measured DNA methylation, chemical tags that help switch genes on or off, and compared these patterns with each animal’s actual age. They found that some age-related changes were shared across species and tissues. This allowed a mathematical “clock” to estimate age from a tissue sample, although accuracy varied between species and tissues.
