Study
Health benefits attributed to 17α-estradiol, a lifespan-extending compound, are mediated through estrogen receptor alpha
Summary Does 17α-estradiol improve health through a specific estrogen receptor? Show / hide ↓
Researchers gave 17α-estradiol, a form of estrogen, to male mice and compared them with untreated mice. They also tested male mice bred without estrogen receptor alpha, a cell protein that receives estrogen signals. The treatment improved body weight, body fat, blood-sugar control, and some signs of inflammation in ordinary mice. These benefits largely disappeared in mice missing the receptor. This was an animal study, so it does not directly show the same effects in humans.
What this means for you: You should not buy or take 17α-estradiol based on this study. It helps explain how the compound may work in mice, but human benefits, risks, and the right dose remain unknown.
