GDF11 and aging biology: controversies resolved and pending
Summary Does GDF11 really reverse aging, or was the early evidence misleading? Show / hide ↓
This 2023 article reviewed research on GDF11, a protein that helps control how cells grow and work. The researchers compared findings from older and younger people, mice, and laboratory cells, rather than testing a new treatment in volunteers. Early studies suggested that GDF11 might restore youthful muscle and brain function. Later studies challenged those findings, partly because some tests confused GDF11 with a similar protein and because results varied between experiments.
What this means for you: Do not buy GDF11 products or seek treatment based on claims that it reverses aging. The evidence is unsettled, and no GDF11 treatment has been proven to slow aging in people.
