RCT 2022
Summary Does taking spermidine supplements help older adults think and remember better? Show / hide ↓

Researchers randomly assigned 100 older adults with memory concerns but no diagnosed dementia to take either spermidine or a placebo, a look-alike dummy supplement. The spermidine came from wheat-germ extract and was taken daily for one year. After a year, memory and other thinking tests were not meaningfully better with spermidine. Blood biomarkers, measurable signs in the body that may reflect health or disease, also showed no clear benefit.

What this means for you: This study does not show that spermidine supplements improve memory or brain-related health. It is reasonable to ignore spermidine as a cognition supplement until larger and longer studies show clearer benefits.
