Summary Does better DNA repair help protect against aging and disease? Show / hide ↓

Researchers examined how cells repair damaged DNA, the molecule carrying our genetic instructions. They compared findings from human studies and laboratory research involving cells and animals. The evidence suggested that DNA damage builds up with age and can make cells stop working properly. Problems in DNA repair were also linked to some inherited diseases and faster aging in laboratory animals. This was not a treatment trial in people.

What this means for you: This research does not show that a supplement, diet, or product can slow aging by improving DNA repair. You can ignore products making that promise unless they have strong human trial evidence.
