Summary Can a blood test show how quickly someone is aging? Show / hide ↓

Researchers developed a blood test called DunedinPACE that measures DNA methylation, chemical tags that help control gene activity. They used health measurements from 1,037 people in New Zealand, followed from young adulthood into middle age, to estimate how quickly their bodies were aging. They then checked the test in several other groups of adults. Faster scores were linked with poorer physical health, slower thinking, and a higher risk of illness or death. The study showed a link, but it did not prove that the test can predict exactly what will happen to one person.

What this means for you: This is an interesting research tool, not a proven reason to buy a commercial aging test or change treatment. No study has shown that acting on the score helps people live longer or healthier lives.
