Study
Age-related frailty and its association with biological markers of ageing
Summary Do biological signs of ageing go along with becoming frail? Show / hide ↓
Researchers studied older adults and compared their physical frailty with blood-based signs of ageing. Frailty means having less strength and resilience, making it harder to recover from illness or stress. They found that people who were frailer generally had more inflammation, meaning increased activity in the body’s immune system, and other less healthy ageing-related measurements. This was an observational study, so it found links but could not show that these biological changes caused frailty.
What this means for you: This does not support buying a supplement or test marketed as an “anti-ageing” treatment. Staying active, eating well, and managing health conditions remain sensible, but this study did not test any treatment.
