Summary How does the body keep proteins working as we age? Show / hide ↓

This paper reviewed existing research rather than running a new experiment, so no people or animals directly participated. It explained proteostasis, the body’s system for making, folding, repairing, and removing proteins. This system uses helper proteins called molecular chaperones and a cell recycling process called autophagy. The review found that proteostasis becomes less effective with age, allowing damaged proteins to build up and possibly contributing to diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

What this means for you: This is useful background, not proof that a supplement or product can restore protein health. You can ignore products making strong anti-aging claims based only on this research.
