Summary What can a rare premature-aging disease teach us about normal aging? Show / hide ↓

Researchers reviewed what is known about Werner syndrome, a rare inherited condition that causes aging-related changes unusually early in life. They examined findings from people with the condition and from laboratory research on the gene changes behind it. The review focused on how problems with DNA repair, the process of fixing damaged genetic material, may contribute to aging. It was not a treatment trial and did not test a product in healthy older adults.

What this means for you: This may help scientists understand aging, but it does not show that any supplement, diet, or treatment can slow aging in healthy people. You can ignore it when deciding what longevity product to buy.
