Summary Which form of vitamin B3 best helps the body make NAD+? Show / hide ↓

This was a review of laboratory, animal, and human nutrition research, not a new experiment. It compared three forms of vitamin B3: nicotinic acid, nicotinamide, and nicotinamide riboside. These can all help make NAD+, a molecule cells use for energy production and other cell functions. The review found that each form uses different pathways in the body, and that nicotinamide riboside looked promising but had much less human evidence at the time.

What this means for you: This paper does not show that any form extends human life or improves health. It is not strong enough to justify buying nicotinamide riboside supplements, especially because the human evidence was limited.
