Study
Sirtuins, aging, and metabolism
Summary Can sirtuins slow aging or improve how the body uses food? Show / hide ↓
Researchers studied sirtuins, proteins that help cells respond to stress and manage energy, in laboratory animals and cells. They changed sirtuin activity or used compounds that might affect it, then measured aging, lifespan, and metabolism, how the body handles food and energy. Some experiments found better sugar and fat handling or signs of healthier aging. Results differed between tissues and animals. There were no human participants, so these findings do not directly show that sirtuins slow aging in people.
What this means for you: This is not a good reason to buy sirtuin-boosting supplements or similar products. The findings are interesting but do not prove a useful anti-aging treatment for people.
