A Blood NAD+ Test Can't Tell One's Biological Age

PRIMARY 2024
Summary Can a blood NAD+ test show how biologically old I am? Show / hide ↓

Researchers measured NAD+, a molecule cells use for energy and repair, in blood samples from adults across different ages. They compared the NAD+ results with the participants’ actual ages and measures intended to estimate biological age, or how old the body seems based on health markers. Blood NAD+ levels did not reliably show either measure of age. People with similar ages could have quite different NAD+ readings.

What this means for you: A blood NAD+ result should not be treated as a reliable biological-age score or a reason to buy NAD+ supplements. This study also does not show whether NAD+ supplements improve health.
