Summary Can a short treatment remove aging-related cells in people? Show / hide ↓

Researchers gave 14 adults with diabetic kidney disease, a condition where diabetes damages the kidneys, a three-day treatment. It combined dasatinib, a prescription cancer drug, with quercetin, a plant compound sold as a supplement. The treatment is called senolytic therapy, meaning it is intended to remove senescent cells, which are damaged cells that stop working normally but remain in the body. Some signs of these cells and related inflammation decreased in blood and tissue samples afterward. The study was small, had no untreated comparison group, and did not show whether kidney health, symptoms, or lifespan improved.

What this means for you: This is not enough evidence to buy or take this combination. Dasatinib can cause serious side effects, so it should only be used in a properly monitored clinical trial or for an approved medical reason.
