Study
Absorption of Orally Administered Hyaluronan
PRIMARY
2016
Summary Can hyaluronan taken by mouth get into the body? Show / hide ↓
Researchers gave laboratory rats hyaluronan, a substance naturally found in connective tissues, by mouth. They added a fluorescent tag, which helps researchers track a substance, and then checked the rats’ blood and tissues. Some hyaluronan, especially smaller pieces, appeared to cross the gut into the bloodstream and reach body tissues. The study did not test people or whether hyaluronan improved health.
What this means for you: This suggests the body may absorb some oral hyaluronan, but it does not show benefits for human joints, skin, or longevity. Do not buy a supplement based on this study alone.
