Summary Does taking spermidine improve memory in older adults at risk for dementia? Show / hide ↓

Researchers randomly assigned 85 older adults with memory concerns to take either a spermidine-rich plant extract or a look-alike placebo. They took the capsules daily for 12 months. The researchers tested their memory before and after the study. Memory did not improve more with spermidine than with the placebo. The supplement appeared to be well tolerated.

What this means for you: This study does not show that buying spermidine supplements improves memory. It was small and lasted only one year, so larger and longer studies are still needed.
