Study
Sirtuin regulation in aging and injury
PRIMARY
2015
Summary Can changing sirtuin proteins slow aging or improve recovery from injury? Show / hide ↓
Researchers studied sirtuins, proteins that help cells respond to stress, aging, and damage. They examined how these proteins changed in laboratory cells and animal models after aging or injury. Changing sirtuin activity sometimes improved cell survival or tissue repair. These experiments were not conducted in people, so they do not show that sirtuin supplements or drugs extend human life.
What this means for you: This does not provide a reason to buy a sirtuin supplement or treatment. It is basic laboratory research, and human benefits remain unproven.
