Long live FOXO: unraveling the role of FOXO proteins in aging and longevity
PRIMARY
2016
Summary Do FOXO proteins help people age more slowly and live longer? Show / hide ↓
This paper was a review, not a new experiment with participants. Researchers summarized studies of FOXO proteins, molecules that help cells handle stress, repair damage, and control growth. The studies included worms, flies, mice, and humans. Some human genetic variants, small inherited differences in DNA, were linked with longer life, but findings were not consistent and animal results do not directly apply to people.
What this means for you: This does not show that taking a FOXO supplement or changing FOXO activity will extend your life. You can ignore products making those promises until human clinical trials provide better evidence.
