Study
Longer lifespan in male mice treated with a weakly estrogenic agonist, an antioxidant, an α-glucosidase inhibitor or a Nrf2-inducer
Summary Can these treatments help male mice live longer? Show / hide ↓
Researchers tested four treatments in male mice and compared them with untreated mice. The treatments included a weakly estrogenic drug, meaning one that mildly imitates estrogen; an antioxidant, which helps limit cell damage; an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, which slows the breakdown of some sugars; and an Nrf2 inducer, which activates a cell-protection system. The treated mice lived longer than the untreated mice. The study was conducted in mice, not people, and it did not show which treatment was safest or best.
What this means for you: This does not justify buying supplements or taking these drugs for longer life. The result is interesting but does not directly apply to humans, and some of these treatments can have risks.
