Blue Zones 'fake' data claims: analysis of UN mortality data across 236 jurisdictions
PRIMARY
2024
Summary Are Blue Zones really supported by reliable death records? Show / hide ↓
Researchers analyzed United Nations mortality data, meaning records about deaths, from 236 countries and territories. They compared death patterns in places described as Blue Zones with patterns elsewhere. This was a data analysis, not a trial, so nobody was assigned a diet or treatment. The analysis questioned whether the available records clearly prove that Blue Zones have unusually long lifespans or whether some very old ages may be overstated.
What this means for you: This does not show that every Blue Zone claim is false, but it does weaken strong claims based on local age records alone. You do not need to buy a special product or copy a Blue Zone diet because of this analysis.
