Study
Mesenchymal stem cell therapy for aging: promise and caution
PRIMARY
2021
Summary Can stem cell treatments safely slow aging in people? Show / hide ↓
Researchers reviewed laboratory studies, animal experiments, and early human trials of mesenchymal stem cells, adult cells found in tissues such as bone marrow and fat. These cells may affect inflammation, tissue repair, and other processes linked with aging. Some studies suggested possible benefits, but many were in cells or animals and do not directly apply to humans. The human studies were generally small and mainly tested safety, not longer life or proven slowing of aging.
What this means for you: This review does not show that stem cell treatments slow aging or extend life. Do not spend money on clinics promising general anti-aging benefits without strong clinical-trial evidence.
