Study
DNA methylation age of human tissues and cell types

Summary Can a DNA test tell how old our tissues really are? Show / hide ↓
Researchers studied about 8,000 tissue samples from people of different ages. They measured DNA methylation, small chemical tags that help control how genes work, in 51 types of tissues and cells. They used these patterns to build an age estimate that usually matched a person’s actual age within a few years. The study also found that some tissues may age faster or slower than others.
What this means for you: This supports DNA methylation as a useful way to measure aging, but it does not show that changing the score will make anyone live longer. You can ignore products claiming to reverse your biological age based only on this study.
