Senolytic therapy combining Dasatinib and Quercetin restores the chondrogenic phenotype of human osteoarthritic chondrocytes by the release of pro-anabolic mediators
Summary Can dasatinib and quercetin help osteoarthritis cartilage cells act normally again? Show / hide ↓
Researchers treated human cartilage cells from osteoarthritic joints in the laboratory with dasatinib and quercetin. These drugs are called senolytics, treatments intended to remove worn-out cells. The team checked whether the cells regained a chondrogenic phenotype, meaning behavior linked to making and maintaining cartilage. They also studied chemical signals released by the treated cells that may encourage cartilage-building activity. No people took these treatments in this study.
What this means for you: This does not show that the combination treats osteoarthritis in people. Do not buy or self-use it based on this result, especially because dasatinib is a prescription cancer drug and the treatment has not been tested here for safety or effectiveness in patients.
