Summary Can blood from young animals improve memory in older animals? Show / hide ↓

Researchers connected the circulation of old mice to young mice and compared them with old mice connected to other old mice. They also injected some old mice with blood plasma, the liquid part of blood, from young mice. The older mice exposed to young blood did better on some memory tests. They also showed stronger synaptic plasticity, meaning their brain connections were better able to change and strengthen. These were experiments in mice, not people, so the results do not directly apply to humans.

What this means for you: This does not show that young blood products improve memory or aging in people. Do not buy or seek such treatments based on this study; it is an early animal finding.
