Study
Diabetes mellitus, fasting glucose, and risk of cause-specific death
Summary Does diabetes or high blood sugar raise the risk of dying from specific diseases? Show / hide ↓
Researchers combined results from 123 long-term studies involving more than 800,000 adults. They compared people with and without diabetes and examined fasting glucose, meaning blood sugar measured after not eating. People with diabetes had a higher risk of dying from heart disease, stroke, some cancers, and other causes. Higher blood sugar was also generally linked with greater risk, although the strength of the link differed by cause of death. This was observational research, meaning it found patterns but cannot prove that high blood sugar directly caused each death.
What this means for you: This supports taking diabetes and persistently high blood sugar seriously, but it does not show that a particular supplement, food, or product prevents death. Use it as background evidence for standard medical care, not as a reason to buy a longevity product.
