Turning back the clock: Can exercise and a healthy diet reduce your biological age?
Summary Can exercise and healthy eating make your body biologically younger? Show / hide ↓
Researchers looked at human studies testing exercise, healthier diets, or both. Participants were adults, often middle-aged or older. They estimated biological age, a measure of how old the body seems, using DNA methylation clocks, which track chemical changes attached to DNA. These programs sometimes made the clocks show a slightly younger age, but results varied and diet alone was less consistent. The clocks measure aging-related changes, not how long someone will live.
What this means for you: Regular exercise and a healthy diet are still sensible choices, but this research does not prove they literally reverse aging or extend life. Do not buy a product simply because it claims to lower your biological age.
