Summary Can an ageing brain be repaired or made younger? Show / hide ↓

This was a scientific review, not a single experiment or treatment trial. The researchers brought together findings about brain ageing, memory loss, and neurodegenerative diseases, which are illnesses involving the gradual loss of nerve cells. Much of the strongest evidence came from mice, including studies suggesting that young blood or substances in blood may improve brain repair and memory in older mice. The review also discussed limited human research and possible treatments, but these ideas had not been proven in people.

What this means for you: This does not justify buying supplements, blood products, or other “brain rejuvenation” treatments. The findings are interesting but mainly come from mice, so they do not directly show that people can reverse brain ageing.
