CROSS-SECTIONAL 2012
Summary What was health and daily life like for people aged 85? Show / hide ↓

Researchers took a one-time snapshot of health, illnesses, daily abilities, and living circumstances in people aged 85. The study involved about 1,000 older adults from Newcastle in England. The participants varied widely: some remained active and independent, while others had several illnesses or needed help with everyday tasks. Women were more likely than men to live alone and have difficulties with some daily activities. Because this was a cross-sectional study, meaning it looked at people at one point in time, it could show patterns but not what caused them.

What this means for you: This study does not point to a particular food, supplement, or product to buy. It mainly shows that people can age very differently, so broad claims about what everyone aged 85 needs should be treated cautiously.
