N-glycosylation as a marker of biological age: a review
Summary Can blood sugar patterns show how quickly a person is aging? Show / hide ↓
Researchers reviewed studies on N-glycosylation, the small sugar chains attached to proteins in the blood. They looked mainly at human studies comparing these patterns with age, health, disease, and survival. The patterns often changed as people got older and sometimes tracked signs of biological age, meaning how old the body seems rather than how many birthdays someone has had. This was a review of existing research, not a new treatment or test tested in one group of people.
What this means for you: These findings are interesting but do not show that buying a glycosylation test or supplement will help you live longer. The measures are not yet reliable enough for routine personal decisions, and many studies only show links rather than cause and effect.
