NAD+ metabolism, aging, and disease

Summary Can raising NAD levels slow aging or prevent disease? Show / hide ↓

This review examined research on NAD, a molecule cells use for energy and repair. It covered studies in cells, animals, and people, rather than testing one treatment in one group. NAD levels often fall with age, and supplements such as nicotinamide riboside and NMN can raise NAD levels in humans. However, clear benefits for aging, disease prevention, or longer life have not been shown in people.

What this means for you: Do not buy an NAD-boosting supplement expecting proven anti-aging or disease-prevention benefits. The biology is interesting, but human evidence is still limited and many findings come from cells or animals.
