Study
PGC-1α in aging and anti-aging interventions
PRIMARY

Summary Can boosting a cell energy regulator slow aging? Show / hide ↓
This 2009 paper examined PGC-1α, a protein that helps cells make energy and maintain their tiny power stations, called mitochondria. It discussed research on aging and possible anti-aging treatments. The evidence mainly came from laboratory and animal studies, not a large human trial. These studies suggested that changing PGC-1α activity might affect muscle health, energy use, and aging-related changes.
What this means for you: This does not show that a supplement or treatment can slow human aging. You can ignore products making strong claims based only on PGC-1α research.
