Study
DNA methylation aging clocks: challenges and recommendations
PRIMARY
2019
Summary How reliable are DNA-based aging clocks, and how should researchers use them? Show / hide ↓
The researchers reviewed studies of DNA methylation aging clocks, which estimate biological age from chemical tags attached to DNA. They examined how well these clocks measure aging and what can make their results misleading. The paper did not test a new treatment or follow a new group of people. It recommended clearer testing and reporting before these clocks are used to judge health or treatments.
What this means for you: This does not show that buying a product marketed to lower your DNA age will improve your health. These clocks may be useful research tools, but they are not yet a proven personal health score.
