Hyperbaric oxygen therapy effects on skin aging markers in men
Summary Can hyperbaric oxygen therapy make men's skin look or act younger? Show / hide ↓
Researchers gave a small group of healthy men 60 sessions in a pressurized chamber, where they breathed nearly pure oxygen. They took small skin samples before and after treatment. The samples showed changes in aging-related markers, including longer telomeres, protective ends of chromosomes, and fewer senescent cells, which are damaged cells that stop working normally. The study measured cell changes, not whether the men's skin looked better or whether they lived longer.
What this means for you: This is not strong evidence that hyperbaric oxygen therapy improves visible skin aging. The study was small and used biological markers rather than meaningful outcomes, so it is not a good reason to buy the treatment for younger-looking skin.
