Cellular senescence and senolytics: the path to the clinic
Summary Can removing worn-out cells help people live healthier for longer? Show / hide ↓
This paper reviewed research on cellular senescence, a state where damaged cells stop dividing but remain in the body. It focused on senolytics, drugs designed to remove these worn-out cells. Studies in cells and animals suggest senolytics may improve some signs of aging and disease. A small number of early human studies have tested related treatments, but they were not large or long enough to prove that senolytics extend life or prevent aging-related disease. No new group of participants was studied in this paper.
What this means for you: This is not evidence that you should buy a senolytic supplement or treatment. The idea is promising, but human evidence is still too limited to show that these drugs are safe and beneficial for healthy people.
