Study
Sleep duration, cardiovascular risk, and all-cause mortality in a Chilean cohort (SantOSA)
Summary Does sleeping too little or too much raise heart and death risks? Show / hide ↓
Researchers followed adults in Chile and recorded how long they usually slept. They compared sleep duration with cardiovascular risk, meaning factors linked to heart and blood-vessel disease, and with deaths from any cause. People with unusually short or long sleep appeared to have higher risks than people sleeping in the middle range. Because this was an observational study, it found a link but cannot show that sleep duration itself caused those outcomes.
What this means for you: This does not justify buying a sleep product or forcing yourself to sleep a specific number of hours. Aim for enough regular sleep, but remember that illness, stress, and other factors can affect both sleep and health.
