Validity of Blue Zones demographic claims: a 2025 reassessment

Various

PRIMARY 2025
Summary Do Blue Zones really have unusually high numbers of exceptionally long-lived people? Show / hide ↓

Researchers reassessed claims about communities said to have unusually many people living past 100. They checked published age records, birth and death documents, and population information where it was available. They found that some claims were weakened by missing records, people moving, changing borders, and possible mistakes in reported ages. The review did not prove that one special diet, product, or lifestyle explains the claims.

What this means for you: Do not buy a product simply because it is marketed as a Blue Zones secret. Regular exercise, healthy food, social connection, and not smoking may still help, but this reassessment does not prove that any one community has a unique formula for long life.
