Study
p53/MDM2 signaling pathway in aging, senescence and tumorigenesis
PRIMARY

Summary How does the p53-MDM2 pathway affect aging, cell aging, and cancer? Show / hide ↓
Researchers reviewed what is known about p53, a protein that can stop damaged cells from multiplying, and MDM2, a protein that helps control p53. They examined how this system may influence senescence, when cells permanently stop dividing, aging, and tumorigenesis, the development of cancer. This was not a study of people, and it did not test a treatment or supplement. The findings mainly describe possible links seen in laboratory research and earlier studies.
What this means for you: This paper does not show that changing p53 or MDM2 will make people live longer or prevent cancer. You can ignore products that use this pathway as a sales claim unless human clinical trials support them.
