Proprietary stress-herb mixes. The ingredients often have individual trials; the blend as sold almost never does.
Judge blends by what you can verify: per-ingredient doses and strain standardization. Without that, you are buying the story, not the evidence.
Adaptogen blend (Adaptogen Blend (proprietary)) is a adaptogen with evidence grade D, meaning it is primarily supported by animal studies. We track 1 products containing Adaptogen blend. Typical doses range from 1300 to 1300 mg per serving. The top-ranked product scores 6.0 out of 10 on our composite scale (dose, evidence, price, testing, transparency). Prices range up to $99.00 per month.

A manufacturer-defined mix of stress-response herbs — typically ashwagandha, rhodiola, eleuthero and similar — combined in one scoop or capsule, usually without per-ingredient amounts on the label.
Some adaptogens (ashwagandha, rhodiola) have decent individual RCT evidence for stress and fatigue at known doses. Once they are folded into a blend without listed amounts with undisclosed amounts, you cannot check whether any of them is present at the dose that worked.

Multi-botanical mixture, typically HPA-axis modulating herbs. Constituent doses undisclosed under proprietary-blend labeling rules.
Evidence exists for single adaptogens at defined doses. For marketed blends the best available data is product-level: an AG1 RCT (JISSN 2025, n=30) found no adverse impact on blood safety biomarkers over 4 weeks, and a companion trial found gut microbiome changes — neither tested stress or cognitive endpoints. Blend-level efficacy trials for stress or fatigue are absent.
Varies by constituent.
Blend without listed amounts = undisclosed doses. If the label lists a total blend weight without per-herb amounts, assume underdosing until proven otherwise.
The trial dose above is our editorial pick from the published human trials for this ingredient. We choose the dose that the best-available studies used on the endpoint most relevant to longevity. The range shows the lowest and highest doses tested in published trials. The landmark studies below are the papers we read to set it. You can click through and check our work.
When new trials publish, our automated sweeps flag them. If a new study materially changes the dose, we update it through editorial review and record the old dose, new dose, and the triggering study in every affected product's recommendation history. The dose is never changed automatically.

Randomized controlled trial: the multi-ingredient blend did not negatively affect blood safety biomarkers in healthy adults over 4 weeks (safety, not efficacy).

Adaptogen blend has evidence grade D, meaning it is primarily supported by animal studies. Grade A means replicated human RCTs with hard endpoints. Grade B means human RCTs with biomarker outcomes. Grade C means mixed or small human trials. See our evidence grading methodology.
